A grass fire destroyed an acre of open space yesterday before firefighters managed to bring the Hounslow Heath blaze under control.
Four fire engines responded to the incident at 16:45 with crews from Heston, Feltham and Twickenham fire stations attending the scene.
Firefighters used water backpacks and beaters to bring the fire under control. A Terrain Support Vehicle was also deployed to the scene. The Terrain Support Vehicle provides off-road capability, enabling the transportation of additional equipment closer to fires on open ground. Each vehicle carries approximately 475 litres of water, which allows firefighters to pump water and drive, enabling them to tackle grass fires more quickly and safely.
