Residents across the borough are invited to attend a free exhibition that explores what the borough looked like in 1965. Whether that is the borough’s link with London’s iconic red buses or its tradition of food production along with what life was like for residents in the 1960s.
Contrasting with this, there are contemporary photos showing how Hounslow’s diverse and lively borough has changed, with new architecture and life as it is lived now.
Councillor Salman Shaheen, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Public Spaces at Hounslow Council, said:
“I would strongly encourage residents to attend this exhibition and learn about our borough’s rich cultural heritage. I was impressed to learn that the Council managed the M4 motorway in the 1960s and that Brentford was London’s second biggest fruit and vegetable market, only surpassed by Covent Garden.”
The exhibition will launch at Hounslow library (in Hounslow House) on Monday 15 September until Tuesday 14 October. The exhibition will then be on the road, visiting a number of libraries across the borough:
• Bedfont Library Wednesday 15 Oct – Friday 14 Nov 2025
• Brentford Library Monday 17 Nov – Wed 24 Dec 2025
• Feltham Library Monday 5 Jan – Friday 30 Jan 2026
• Isleworth Library Monday 2 Feb – Friday 27 Feb 2026
• Heston or Osterley Libraries – Monday 2 March – Tuesday 31 March 2026
