Hounslow Council Leader Councillor Shantanu Rajawat has issued a statement following the death of a 71-year-old woman in Hounslow on Sunday 1st March.
Police were called to a residential address on Bath Road shortly after 10:00am, following reports of a woman with significant injuries. Despite the efforts of the London Ambulance Service, she was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
Her next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.
Police say a full investigation is underway, though no arrests have been made at this early stage.
Cllr Rajawat said: “I am deeply saddened to learn of the tragic death of a 71‑year‑old woman earlier this week at a residential property on Bath Road, Hounslow. My thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with her family, friends and all those affected by this shocking incident.
“The Metropolitan Police have confirmed a murder investigation is now underway, led by detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command, and a crime scene remains in place as officers work to establish the full circumstances of what happened.
“I want to reassure our community that the police are doing everything they can to identify those responsible. Residents will see additional police patrols in the area in the coming days to provide reassurance and support.
“The police have appealed for anyone who was in the Bath Road area and may have seen or heard anything unusual to come forward, as even the smallest piece of information may prove vital. Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting CAD2395/01Mar, or to contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
Detective Chief Inspector Matthew Denby who is leading the investigation, said: “This is a tragic incident in which a woman has lost her life. We are working to establish the full circumstances of what happened, and we are keeping an open mind to pursue all lines of inquiry.
“We urge anyone who was in the area of Bath Road, who may have seen or heard anything unusual, to come forward. Even small pieces of information can prove vital.”
