Hounslow Council has officially launched ‘Golden Mile London’, a 15-year regeneration programme set to transform the Great West Road with £7.5 billion of investment.

The vision, unveiled at the Gtech Community Stadium in Brentford, aims to turn the historic four-kilometre stretch between Heathrow and central London into a world-leading Creative-Tech Innovation District.

Stretching along the A4/M4 corridor, the Golden Mile is entering a new phase of opportunity, leveraging its industrial heritage and iconic Art Deco landmarks.

The programme is set to deliver:
Work is already beginning. The council’s Planning Committee recently approved plans for 2,300 homes and 320,000 sq ft of commercial and community space at the former GSK headquarters (980 Great West Road). To kickstart this vision, Hounslow Council has committed an initial £1.15 million to the programme. This funding will support early priority projects, including the Golden Mile Innovation Hub, ‘greener streets’ initiatives, and vital improvements to the A4. Additionally, a new Golden Mile Skills and Innovation Hub is being developed in partnership with the University of West London to help residents upskill for these new roles.
Councillor Shantanu Rajawat, Leader of Hounslow Council, said: “The Golden Mile London is one of the most significant regeneration opportunities in London. This is about shaping the future of Hounslow, west London and London itself. Delivering thousands of new homes and jobs while creating greener, healthier neighbourhoods for our residents.

“Through strong partnerships, we are setting out a bold, long-term vision for inclusive, sustainable growth.” The plan is being showcased today at MIPIM, the world’s leading property conference in Cannes, placing Hounslow’s local ambitions on the global stage.

Howard Dawber, Deputy Mayor for Business and Growth, said: “It is fantastic that Hounslow and partners are taking the first steps to deliver the Golden Mile London, which will deliver a huge boost to the local economy.

“London’s Growth Plan aims to restore growth, help create 150,000 jobs and make London’s economy £107bn larger by 2035 – and this ambitious scheme in Hounslow is a great example of what can be achieved, as we work together to build a better, fairer and more prosperous London for everyone.”

Rob Tincknell, Chair, Golden Mile Business & Developers Forum and CEO of Areli added: “Golden Mile London is a story that hasn’t really been told - until now! The vision launched today, underpinned by seven principles to make it happen, gives a clear sense of our ambition. Investors, businesses and Hounslow Council are collectively aligned to make this unique place absolutely extraordinary in the years ahead.”
