Police issue warning after rise in Hounslow phone snatches

Hounslow Herald · 24 Mar 2026, 08:04

Hounslow’s local policing team has issued an urgent safety alert following a series of ‘upsetting’ bag and phone snatches across the borough. Officers are increasing both uniformed and plain-clothes patrols in high-traffic hotspots, including transport hubs, shopping streets, and parks, to combat the rise in opportunistic thefts.

The warning, issued via the MetEngage platform by Sergeant Bob Swallow, highlights that many incidents involve thieves on mopeds or bicycles approaching victims from behind to grab valuables.

‘‘These incidents often happen quickly and can be very upsetting,’’ Sgt Swallow said. ‘‘Our aim is to help prevent further offences and keep our community feeling confident and safe.’’

In response to the spike, police are fast-tracking CCTV reviews to identify suspects and working closely with local businesses to improve safety messaging. Residents are being urged to ‘stay aware and stay connected’ while navigating busy areas.

Police have shared four key steps to reduce the risk of becoming a target:

If you witness suspicious behaviour or have been affected by a robbery, call 999 in an emergency or 101 for non-urgent reports. Information can also be shared directly with local Safer Neighbourhoods Teams.
