Miss Kathleen Liang, Home Manager at Maryville Care Home in Brentford, is celebrating after being shortlisted for a prestigious national award recognising excellence in the not-for-profit care sector.

She has been named a finalist in the Leadership category at this year’s Markel 3rd Sector Care Awards, which celebrates outstanding work across the UK’s not-for-profit care sector.

Now in its 12th year, the awards are organised by Care Management Matters (CMM) in partnership with the National Care Forum, recognising the dedication, innovation and positive impact in care services supporting children and adults.

The shortlisting recognises Miss Liang’s forward-thinking leadership, specifically her work in prioritising environmental sustainability and the introduction of electronic care plans and new call bell systems. Under her guidance, Maryville has become a certified member of the ENRICH and Research Ready Care Home Network, as well as winning the Management Team of the Year award at the Caring UK Awards 2025. Her tenure has also seen the home consistently recognised as a Top 20 Care Home in London from 2022 to 2026. Beyond these accolades, her focus on empowering residents has seen them take an active role in home refurbishments and significantly improved access to oral health care.

Commenting on the news, Miss Liang said: “It’s a real honour to be shortlisted for a national award and to have our work recognised alongside so many inspiring individuals and organisations from across the country.”

Steve Peng, a relative of one of the residents, said “We are absolutely delighted to see Kathleen Liang recognised as a finalist for this prestigious leadership award. From our very first meeting, she has gone above and beyond to support not just my mother, but our entire family during what was a difficult transition. Her compassionate leadership, genuine care, unwavering dedication have made all the difference in helping Mum settle into her new home. This nomination is so well deserved, and we couldn’t be prouder.”

The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony at Town Hall Birmingham on Friday 17th April, bringing together leaders from health and social care nationwide.

Simon Johnston, Marketing Director UK, at Markel said: “Each year, we are humbled and inspired by the dedication, resilience and compassion of those working in the third sector. Being shortlisted for the Markel 3rd Sector Care Awards is a significant achievement and reflects the exceptional work being delivered by this year’s finalists.

“At a time when their work is more vital than ever, it’s an honour to recognise and celebrate the outstanding contributions of individuals and organisations in the not-for-profit sector. Sharing their stories helps showcase the incredible difference they make every day.”
