Nine new water safety boards installed along the Thames

Nine new water safety throwline boards have been installed along the Thames towpath between Mortlake and Barnes to help prevent drownings. Spanning the stretch from the White Hart pub to Barn Elms Boathouse, the equipment provides emergency support for those in difficulty in the water, adding to the borough’s existing network of river safety measures.

While the River Thames is a cherished part of Richmond upon Thames, it remains unpredictable. Cold water shock, strong currents, and hidden hazards mean that entering the water can put lives at risk. These additional safety measures are part of an ongoing partnership to improve public safety and ensure a rapid response in an emergency.
