Third man charged following Richmond jewellery heist

Detectives from the Met’s Flying Squad have arrested and charged a third man following a smash-and-grab robbery at a jewellers in Richmond.

Officers arrested Deniz Mehmet, 28, of Purfleet Road, Aveley, on Wednesday 8th April.

He was charged with conspiracy to commit robbery on Thursday 9th April and appeared at Barkingside Magistrates' Court on Friday 10th April.

Detective Chief Inspector Scott Mather, from the Met's Flying Squad, said: “Across the Met we are working hard to tackle retail crime, including robbery and shoplifting, as we know the significant impact these incidents have on shop workers and communities. We have carried out extensive enquiries into this incident over the past few months and have now charged three people.”

Two men were previously charged with conspiracy to commit robbery in connection with the robbery in Paved Court in Richmond, at around 10:34hrs on Saturday 31st January.

Officers arrested Robert Clarke, 50, of Lever Lane, Rochford, and Lee Ramsey, 46, of Hastingwood Road, Harlow, on Tuesday 31st March.

Both men appeared at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 1st April.

All three were remanded into custody and are next due to appear at Kingston Crown Court on Tuesday 28th April.
